I'm not perfect, I do nasty things to people all the time without even thinking about it, but generally not intentionally. My friends live in the University Residence and on there floor this is a lonely girl who sits by herself in the common area and will watch tv. She doesn't really seem to have any friends. My friends over there are a big group of loud guys and they've taken it upon themselves to hurt this girl. As soon as she's gone they loudly complain about her. "She's a lurker" "she's a creep" and just generally about how much they don't like her and can't stand her being around. I say excuse me? She doesn't do anything but sit there. She doesn't even talk because she's too shy, she's never done anything to hurt any of you. "Psychologically she has".
One little girl, too shy to talk or even look anyone in the eye has psychologically harmed a group of what I would call full grown men if they weren't so immature? Bull. I've seen her maybe twice, but there is no way she could be doing anything. All I can do is push them to be kind, but it doesn't seem to be working.

Yay!
Banned Commercials
I wonder if it's worth it to make commercials like these. They're so funny people will remember them but they don't last long as someone is always offended.
It's All In the Music
The music makes this equally, if not more, intense as any action movie I have ever seen. Plus I love puppies and kitties haha.

New Job
I start my Earls training this Saturday and I'm really not looking forward to it. Why? Because just from our 'work party' the cliques and bitchiness is already hard to take. We'll see if I can stick this out. And find something to wear....

Did You Know?

January is National Drag Queen Month (US)!
'January 2009 marks the first-ever celebration of National Drag History Month! This month-long event salutes the richness of drag culture and pays tribute to the courageous queens & kings who have fought for equality while inspiring, educating & entertaining us all.'
I'm all for equality but I wonder, what do we do to celebrate this exactly...

I Just Might Be in Love
I know the show is probably mostly fake... but it didn't stop this video from quite possibly making my day. I love a smart ass. These boys are straight by the way.
Insomnia
I haven't been able to sleep for going on five months now. I'll fall asleep around 5, sometimes as late/early as 7 and be up for classes at 8 or so. My mother suggests warm milk, my aunt suggests sex and wine. Since Google is my doctor, and I like learning about such things (it was suggested that to fix my night twitches I put a bar of soap under my sheet? Haven't tried it yet) I am going to choose some options off there. They are:
1. A tea made from lettuce seeds: sounds disgusting
2. Warm milk with honey. Also massaging milk into the soles of the feet: Maybe the first part..
3. Honey water
4. Herbal sleep pillow
5. A cold hip-bath with feet in hot water: sounds too awful
6. Mashed banana with cumin seeds
7. Celery juice
8. Eating raw onions
9. Putting an onion under my pillow
10. Smoke marijuana: I don't do drugs of any kind.
11. Put lavender under your pillow
12. Broth of boiled tarragon leaves
13. Valerian (tea, pills)
14. Vanilla scented things
So far out of all I've found warm milk with honey sounds the nicest, but almost too easy...

Norm
In sociology my professor talks about 'Norm'. You know, the regular, average guy. He works a 9-5 desk job. He's married and has 2.5 kids. And I think I might be 'Norma'. I finished high school with high-average marks. I worked 3 jobs during the summer, none of them anything exciting. I went right into University into an Arts program. I haven't really ever done anything noteworthy. The only things I have mapped for the future is getting married, settling down, having a couple kids and hopefully being happy. The question is, is there anything wrong with this? Being average? Should I be finding a larger purpose/dream for myself? I think this is the biggest question I have going on in my life right now, I have no idea where I'm going.
At the same time as enjoying my averageness, sometimes a little spark of wanting something a bit more comes out. We'll see if I ever follow it.

I would definitely not call myself an artist but I do get in the mood to sketch sometimes. I had hoped to take drawing in University, my art teacher in High School had actually tried to convince me to make art my major, but she was perhaps over encouraging I think! Anyhow, this is a sketch I had on my computer. It's a baby in an egg cup which is a little strange I admit. The meaning behind it is how sheltered I know I once was and that shelter is being cracked, the spoon is knowledge, etc. Anyhow, it's always relaxing :)
A Review
I'm home sick and need something to do, so I thought I'd talk about the concert I went to this weekend.
I went and saw 'Lights' this Sunday with my roommate. I'm not sure whether you would call Lights a singer or a band? At any rate, the concert said it started at 7:00 so we foolishly showed up then. Over an hour later the opener Matt Good went on. I was a little peeved that it took so long but really shouldn't I know better? Matt turned out to be from around here, from a small town called Carlisle, and was really good. He sang with acoustic guitar and if you ever have the chance I would definitely recommend you check him out! Along with being a great musician he's a really sweet guy.
Little annoyance: why is it that it always seems that the one person you really don't want to be at the same event as you always shows up?
Moving on, Lights eventually came on and the little girls all went wild. It was really quite cute, most of them showed up in those little headbands you wear across your forehead in her honor. It was a pretty good show although I do have to say her voice seemed a little... put-on in person. Sort of like the baby voice some people use to be cute. She was very energetic and silly though and very fun to watch. Talking to her in person, she is a very nice girl and was a lot tinier than I had expected!
My roommate and I were invited out with Lights after the show, and why not? Nothing better to do on a Sunday night usually. We went to a local pub, O'Hannlons and Maurie, Adam, and the manager Linda all came to chat. I was a little disappointed that Valerie (Lights) didn't come but they said that she was tuckered out and just headed for bed. A friend of mine chatted with her at a previous show and had really liked her. I suppose I wanted to compare experiences a bit. The highlight of the evening just might have been talking to Linda. She was very talkative and just lots of fun. She used to manage for Mandy Moore which I thought was really interesting and just seemed to have an exciting life. Always fun to meet new people.
I did have a little peeve this night. I noticed later that the Lights shirt I bought was autographed Lights. Not Valerie. It seemed a bit strange to me and I really would have preferred the name. Even out at drinks Linda and the guys referred to her as Lights. When I asked them why they don't call her by name they responded that she had legally changed her name to Lights. Must be an image thing? Or security to prevent stalkers haha. Hmmm, I wonder what name I could get away with?
The concert was only $17 a ticket and the merch was pretty cheap too. I would definitely check out a concert, I have a feeling Lights could really go places. Not a bad way to spend your evening at all!
